Philip Duffy
Duffy has been painting for almost 50 years, becoming a full-time artist fifteen years ago. His paintings have found buyers all over South Africa as well as in the UK and Europe.
Duffy’s work is founded in realism, but sometimes he breaks free and incorporates abstract or leaves parts unresolved because he feels it allows the viewer to participate in the final interpretation of the subject in order to imbue a sense of collaboration and ownership in the work.
Largely self-taught, Duffy enjoyed a period of a few years attending periodic tuition under Andrew James from the Royal Society of Portrait painters. Following this, he attended tuition both in the UK and South Africa from Kerri Evans, a successful South African artist of international standing.
