Anna Painter Studio

A Fine Art graduate, Anna has been represented by various galleries in South Africa since 2009. Anna’s work is held in private collections in the USA, UK, and South Africa.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The central theme of my practice is a reverence for creation and the intellect and complexity of emotion in all sentient beings. Humankind holds responsibility as the designated custodians of nature.  In the natural world, we find so much beauty and a place of solace. Working from a place of stillness, imbued in the work, I share this stillness with the viewer. A painterly painter, my vocabulary of emotive mark making creates a unique visual language, the content ultimately in the brush mark.

Drawn to Tonalism and Chiaroscuro, the work takes on a life of its own, the composition emerging from the underpainting. The painting lets me know when it is finished.

Working on multiple series concurrently, each series is ongoing, with an open timeline. The multiple series together form a cohesive body of work.
