Bryan Cusack

Bryan Cusack, an Irish-born artist now based in KwaZulu-Natal, specializes in driftwood sculptures of wildlife and human figures. With a background in Fine Art and Renaissance & Classical History, Bryan began his career in restoration in Germany. Emigrating to South Africa in 1992, he worked in the movie industry for several years before returning to sculpting full-time in 2006.

Inspired by the Wild Coast of Pondoland, he found driftwood as a preferred medium for his work. Its natural form, deep lines, and gnarled nuances impart a texture not unlike the natural African landscape. Working from a studio near Durban, Bryan's weathered sculptures, influenced by nature, are sculpted overlooking the sea. He actively supports nature, often crafting endangered species sculptures for various causes. His works are available in selected galleries in KZN, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
